At least one person was killed and seven others were injured on Tuesday in a Multan building collapse when the roof of an under-construction plaza fell near the city’s Northern Bypass, Rescue 1122 said.

The emergency service said the collapse occurred near the National College of Business Administration and Economics on Northern Bypass. Seven injured people were rescued and taken to Nishtar Hospital, and the body of the person killed was also moved there. A Nishtar Hospital spokesperson, citing hospital records, confirmed that one individual had been brought dead.

Rescue response and site status

Rescue 1122 said its teams reached the scene within three minutes of receiving the call. Ten vehicles took part: five ambulances, three rescue motorbikes, one rescue vehicle and one fire vehicle.

A rescue official said eight labourers were present when the roof fell. The same official said other people trapped under debris could not be ruled out until wreckage was cleared. A Rescue 1122 team was to remain on site until salvage work finished.

Condition of the injured

According to the Nishtar Hospital spokesperson, three patients had head injuries — with the severity not yet described — and three others had minor injuries. Doctors and paramedical staff were placed on high alert in the emergency room, the spokesperson said, and the injured were being given the hospital’s available medical care.
