Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial parliamentary party has backed negotiations with the federal government to end governor's rule—when an appointed governor runs the province instead of the elected cabinet—and the emergency, and has moved to set up a six-member negotiating committee, according to party sources.

The party met in Peshawar. One account from parliamentary party sources put attendance at more than 40 members of the provincial assembly, including former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur; another put the figure at 46. Party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Noorul Haq Qadri also took part, sources said.

Talks to restore the elected mandate

Sources said the meeting took the view that talks with the federal government should open a path to withdraw governor's rule and the emergency. Members argued that once those measures end, PTI's provincial mandate could return. Some suggested that Ali Amin Gandapur join the negotiating process so issues could move ahead through mutual consultation.

Shaukat Yousafzai said he supports negotiations and that the federal government should reduce bitterness and end governor's rule and the emergency. He added that if Ali Amin Gandapur is the parliamentary party's choice for the talks, no one should object, calling him a long-standing loyal companion of the party's founder. Remarks against state institutions, he said, have no link with PTI.

Six-member negotiating committee

Party sources said the provincial parliamentary party formed a six-member negotiating committee to seek an end to governor's rule and the emergency in the province. Barrister Gohar, Ali Amin Gandapur and Noorul Haq Qadri are to sit on it, with three members of the KP Assembly also to be included.

Barrister Gohar assured that the committee would be formally announced within 48 hours, sources said. He also placed the release of the party's founder, the founder's sisters and Sohail Afridi under the responsibility of a federal parliamentary committee, according to those accounts.

Ali Amin Gandapur, sources said, asked in what capacity the government would accept him without a declaration. Members at the Peshawar meeting also argued that keeping workers off the streets after governor's rule and the emergency was a sound choice; street mobilisation, they said, could have risked scenes like those of 9 May.

What happens next

The immediate next step, if Barrister Gohar's assurance holds, is a formal naming of the full six-member team within two days. How and when the federal government responds—and whether Ali Amin Gandapur's question about his status is answered—will shape whether talks on lifting governor's rule and the emergency actually begin.

Aasan alfaaz mein

PTI ke KP ke assembly members ne federal government se baat cheet ki himayat ki hai. Un ka maqsad gouverneur raj aur emergency khatam karwana hai. Party ne chhe logon ki ek committee bhi banayi hai, jisme Barrister Gohar aur Ali Amin Gandapur shamil bataye gaye hain. Agar baat ban jaye to soobe mein muntakhib hukumat wapas aane ka rasta khul sakta hai.
