The Pakistan Army has destroyed several Afghan Taliban posts and military positions in areas adjoining South Waziristan and Parachinar, state-run Radio Pakistan reported on Friday, citing security sources.
The sources said the army used heavy weaponry along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the Angoor Adda area after what they called unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban forces, forcing personnel to abandon their posts and flee. Several fighters of the Afghan Taliban regime were killed in the operation, according to the same account. Security forces, the report added, remain committed to defending the country and its people, with no compromise on national security.
What happened at Angoor Adda
On 27 October, Afghan forces opened fire on Pakistani border posts and residential areas in Angoor Adda, Lower South Waziristan. Officials said the fire came from posts inside Afghan territory and included sniper, small and heavy weapons. Mortar shelling struck a residential area, killing one civilian and injuring five members of the same family.
Sources said Pakistani forces responded at once, engaging multiple Afghan Taliban border posts, mortar positions and defensive bunkers with small and heavy arms, including artillery. State media later linked that response to the destruction of posts near South Waziristan and Parachinar. One account placed the Angoor Adda firing on Tuesday; another referred to Thursday, while both tied the latest escalation to the 27 October civilian casualties.
Angoor Adda is among the most sensitive crossings on the Pak-Afghan border and a major route for trade and public movement between the two countries.
Official statements and the wider dispute
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the firing and said Pakistan would never tolerate attacks on its population or violations of its territorial sovereignty.
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence accused Pakistani forces of striking Afghan installations. Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting rejected that account as a fabrication of lies.
Islamabad has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban administration in Kabul to stop terrorist groups—especially the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), militants who attack inside Pakistan—from using Afghan soil. Officials say those appeals have not been heeded; Kabul has rejected the claims.
