The Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA), the provincial body that handles curriculum and assessment, has ordered a fresh check of new school books for nursery through Grade 5 after Punjab textbook errors were identified in material prepared for the next curriculum cycle.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had approved the new curriculum for learners up to Grade 5. That programme is scheduled to begin in the 2027–28 academic year. The latest review comes before the books go to print, not after they reach classrooms.
Why the books were sent back
According to people familiar with the process, the new volumes were first shared with education experts so mistakes could be caught before printing. Several faults were still found. Authorities then returned the books for another round of scrutiny rather than clearing them for production.
Officials have not published a public list of the faults. What is clear is that the Punjab textbook errors were serious enough for PECTAA to pause and recheck the early-years set covering nursery to Grade 5.
Publishers seek a clearer print timeline
Publishers have asked PECTAA to release the final Punjab school books as soon as possible. They note that the academic year in private schools begins on 1 January and have warned that slow printing could leave the new titles hard to find even by March.
The Education Department says the review should be finished within one to two weeks. Officials have told publishers that titles under the new curriculum will be available in the market before the new academic year starts.
When the new books are meant to arrive
For now, families and schools should treat the nursery–Grade 5 set as under revision. The curriculum itself remains on the 2027–28 track approved by the chief minister, while PECTAA and the department work through the latest check and the publishers’ concerns about print timing.
That sequence matters for anyone planning purchases or classroom stock: the books are not yet cleared for final printing, the expert review is meant to be short, and the government still pledges market supply ahead of the new academic year—even as publishers flag a possible squeeze if presses start late.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Punjab ki nursery se Grade 5 tak ki nayi school books mein ghaltiyan milne ke baad PECTAA unka dobara jaiza le raha hai. Naya curriculum 2027–28 mein shuru hona hai, jo Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ne approve kiya tha. Education Department ke mutabiq yeh review ek se do hafton mein khatam ho sakta hai, aur books naye session se pehle market mein aani chahiye. Private schools ka session 1 January se shuru hota hai, is liye publishers jaldi chhapai chahte hain taake March tak kitaaben na milne ka masla na ho.
