The Pak Army on the Afghan border destroyed multiple Afghan Taliban check posts on Tuesday night after a mortar struck a civilian house in Angoor Adda, South Waziristan, killing one person and injuring five members of the same family, officials said.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Samar Haroon Bilour, citing security sources, said the Afghan Taliban regime had targeted the civilian population in Angoor Adda. She said a shell landed on a house, wounding five relatives and leaving one civilian dead. The South Waziristan deputy commissioner separately described unprovoked firing on civilian houses and Angoor Adda Bazar on the night of 27 October, with one killed, five injured by a mortar round, and many shops damaged.
Official account of the response
Bilour’s statement said the Pak Army gave an immediate and strong response to the aggression and that multiple Afghan force check posts were destroyed in retaliatory action. Officials said Pakistani troops stayed on high alert along the border and were prepared to stop further aggression, and that the military response to the attack on civilians was continuing. The incident, according to the same statement, sparked widespread anger among local residents over the targeting of civilians.
Why Angoor Adda sits on a tense frontier
Angoor Adda lies in South Waziristan Lower on the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier, where communities live close to crossing points and bazaar trade. Officials framed Tuesday night’s firing as a strike on homes and a market area rather than a distant military post alone. That framing helps explain why shops in Angoor Adda Bazar were reported damaged alongside the household casualties, and why the Pak Army Afghan border posture was described as remaining elevated after the exchange.
