Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee and given an official reprimand after the International Cricket Council (ICC), cricket’s world governing body, ruled he committed a Level 1 breach of its Code of Conduct in Sunday’s One-Day International against England in Lahore.
The ICC also added one demerit point to his disciplinary record. That takes his total to five points after a third offence within 24 months. England were separately fined 15 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over rate in the same Pakistan ODI Tri-Series fixture.
What the ICC found
Match officials found Rauf had breached Article 2.2, which covers conduct contrary to the spirit of the game. The incident came at the end of the 46th over of Pakistan’s innings while he was at the non-striker’s end.
According to the disciplinary finding, Rauf appealed for a wide and then argued with England all-rounder Will Jacks. He raised his bat during the exchange and kept arguing after a warning from umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid. He also brushed past the umpire while walking toward Jacks.
England’s slow-over-rate fine
England’s penalty was for over-rate failure, not for the on-field spat. The side was judged three overs short of its target once time allowances were taken into account, and was fined 15 per cent of its match fee under the ICC’s over-rate rules.
The Lahore ODI formed part of Pakistan’s home tri-series programme. Pakistan won the match against England; the Code of Conduct case followed the on-field confrontation late in the home side’s innings.
What the demerit points mean next
A Level 1 finding with an official reprimand and a 20 per cent match-fee fine is at the lower end of the ICC scale, but demerit points accumulate. With five points after three offences in two years, Rauf’s record is now under closer scrutiny for any further breach, though this ruling itself does not state a new match ban.
Fans will watch whether further discipline arises in later tri-series games. For now, the confirmed outcomes are the fine, the reprimand, the extra demerit point, and England’s separate over-rate penalty.
