Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s adviser on political affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has said that an amendment could be considered so Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan can be brought more fully into Pakistan’s construction and development agenda. He linked that idea to wider talks on how resources are shared, including discussion of a share under the National Finance Commission (NFC), the forum that decides how federal tax revenue is divided among the provinces.
Speaking on current political questions, Rana Sanaullah said bitterness sometimes rises around sensitive issues. He recalled friction with the Pakistan Peoples Party during Azad Kashmir’s elections, framing it as part of normal political contest rather than a lasting break.
Development, NFC and existing facilities
Rana Sanaullah said that bringing Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan into the development journey may require some form of amendment, and that NFC share arrangements for them are among the matters being discussed. He stressed that nothing already granted to the regions would be taken away.
He rejected suggestions that facilities already extended would be reduced. Raja Farooq Haider, he said, was speaking from a misunderstanding, and “nothing of that kind” was going to happen. The adviser also insisted that no constitutional amendment in Azad Kashmir was being reversed, calling contrary claims propaganda, and said the local government there was being strengthened so the territory could develop.
Action Committee and political outreach
Turning to street politics, Rana Sanaullah alleged that terrorists had joined the Action Committee sit-in. He said the public Action Committee that had been formed had taken on a new shape. The claim was his own characterisation; he did not name individuals or give further detail in the remarks summarised here.
On Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Rana Sanaullah called him a seasoned and senior politician. He recalled cooperative memories from the Pakistan Democratic Movement period and said the PML-N leadership’s respectful relationship with him remained. He acknowledged that the Maulana had made bitter remarks about the state or about martyrs, that the government side had replied in kind, and that the preference now was still to sit with him and settle those disputes.
Meeting offer to Achakzai
Rana Sanaullah said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has invited Mahmood Khan Achakzai for a meeting. He argued there was no sound basis for disputes over venue or similar conditions, and that Achakzai should meet according to a time agreed with the prime minister and play his role as an opposition leader.
Taken together, the adviser’s comments point to a government line that seeks constitutional or fiscal adjustments for Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan while denying any rollback of earlier legal or welfare arrangements, and that keeps the door open to talks with key opposition figures.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Rana Sanaullah ne kaha hai ke Azad Kashmir aur Gilgit-Baltistan ko taraqqi ke silsile mein shamil karne ke liye koi amendment ho sakti hai. Unhon ne kaha ke pehle di gayi sahulaten kam nahi ki jayengi aur AJK ki constitutional amendment wapas nahi ho rahi. NFC mein hissa bhi discuss ho raha hai. Awam ke liye yeh baat yeh matlab rakhti hai ke in ilaqon ki taraqqi aur wasail ka masla siyasi satah par chal raha hai, lekin abhi koi final faisla un ke bayanat mein nahi aaya.
