Netflix has begun rolling out a Netflix new AI feature called AI Discover, a tab meant to help viewers find the next show or film from what they feel like watching rather than from endless title rows. The company said the first experiment under the tab surfaces recommendations based on mood, time available, viewing preferences, or what is new and trending.
How the mood themes work
On the tab, users can choose curated themes that include clips from shows and movies. Theme examples named by the company include “something light,” “scare me,” “family movie night,” and “quick watches,” among others. Once a theme is selected, matching recommendations appear.
Viewers can then pick more specific themes and keep searching, or choose “something different” to start over. Each title also shows a “Tune Your Recommendations” control beside Play and My List, so users can save suggestions they like or exclude titles they do not want to see again.
Feedback and the ‘test kitchen’
Netflix says AI Discover is powered by a new intelligence layer it has been building that responds to what members tell the service in real time and keeps learning. The company described the tab as its “test kitchen,” where it will “try out new recipes for discovery,” and said member feedback will help decide which experiments to keep or improve before moving them into the main Netflix experience.
In a blog post, Netflix wrote that there is more to enjoy and discover on the service than ever, but that what suits a quiet night in may differ from family movie night or a few spare minutes. It said years of refining discovery—from Thumbs Up signals to My List—now sit alongside AI Discover as another way to explore.
Who can use it so far
AI Discover is starting to roll out in the United States to members who use Netflix in English on supported TVs. The company plans to bring the tab to additional users in the coming weeks. Where it is available, a Discover button with a red gem icon and a “New” label appears in the top navigation bar on the TV.
