The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), the country’s largest state-owned commercial bank, has issued Friday selling and buying rates for major currencies in Karachi. The US dollar selling rate is Rs278.54 and the buying rate is Rs275.54.
Other major currencies on Friday
Alongside the dollar, NBP published rates for several widely used currencies. The British pound sterling selling rate is Rs373.04 and the buying rate is Rs368.63. The euro selling rate is Rs311.72 and the buying rate is Rs308.06.
The Japanese yen selling rate is Rs1.7698 and the buying rate is Rs1.7488. The Saudi riyal sells at Rs74.22 and buys at Rs73.35. The UAE dirham sells at Rs75.84 and buys at Rs74.95.
How bank selling and buying rates work
In NBP’s table, the selling rate is the price at which the bank sells foreign currency to a customer, and the buying rate is the price at which it buys foreign currency from a customer. The gap between the two figures is the bank’s spread on that currency on the day the rates are issued.
For the dollar on Friday, that spread is Rs3.00 per dollar (Rs278.54 selling minus Rs275.54 buying). Similar gaps appear on the other listed currencies in the same bulletin.
