Pakistan petrol output at 7,035 tons a day against 21,583 sold

Local plants far behind daily petrol sales

A written reply in the Senate shows a clear petrol production gap in Pakistan for July–September 2026. Domestic refineries turned out 7,035 tons of petrol each day, while buyers took 21,583 tons a day. Officials said that meant local plants supplied only about one-third of the petrol sold in the opening quarter of fiscal year 2026-27.

High-speed diesel, the fuel widely used by trucks and buses, also trailed consumption. Plants made 14,065 tons of diesel a day; daily sales were 16,866 tons. The reply noted that Pakistani refineries blend locally extracted crude with imported crude to make both fuels.

Province by province

Punjab posted the largest volumes. It made 4,670 tons of petrol a day and sold 14,827 tons. Diesel there ran at 7,608 tons produced against 10,779 tons sold.

Sindh made 1,592 tons of petrol a day and sold 4,567 tons. On diesel, Sindh flipped the pattern: output of 4,419 tons a day topped sales of 3,662 tons.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s daily petrol sales were listed at 2,127 tons and diesel sales at 2,355 tons. The Senate answer gave no production totals for that province.

Balochistan made 773 tons of petrol a day but sold only 62 tons. Its diesel output reached 2,038 tons a day against sales of 70 tons, pointing to fuel leaving the province or serving other markets rather than local pumps alone.

Imports and softer September sales

In the same quarter, crude oil brought in from abroad rose 12 percent, reaching 2.78 million tons. That increase sits beside the petrol production gap in Pakistan: when domestic refining cannot match what the market lifts each day, imported crude becomes a larger part of the supply chain.

Separate industry figures for September 2026 put overall petroleum sales at 1.35 million tons, 2 percent lower than a year earlier. The Senate material does not spell out pump queues or retail stock-outs; it maps how much refineries make versus how much is sold, and how much crude was imported.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Pakistan ki refineries jo petrol banati hain, woh July se September 2026 mein rozana ki farokht ka sirf taqreeban ek-tihai hissa theen. Zyada tar petrol ki zaroorat local production se poori nahi hoti, is liye imported crude ka role bara hai. Diesel bhi sales se kam bana, lekin farq petrol jaisa bara nahi. Is jawab mein pump par qillat ya nayi qeemat ka zikr nahi—yeh production aur sales ka hisab hai.

FAQ

The reply does not describe empty pumps or a retail crisis. It shows local refineries made about one-third of the petrol sold daily in July–September 2026, with the rest of supply tied to refining that uses imported as well as local crude.
