The Pakistan stock market has drawn a record number of participants: the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX)—the country’s main marketplace for company shares—had 681,965 investors in October 2026, according to Finance Ministry data. That total was 56% higher than a year earlier and followed the largest single-month rise in accounts yet recorded.

Record monthly rise in October

The ministry said 25,747 new investor accounts were opened in October, the highest monthly addition on record. Between January and October 2026, the PSX added 218,894 net new investors—more than the combined additions of the previous four full calendar years (2022–2025). The ministry called the pace “a remarkable shift in investor participation, reflecting growing confidence and signalling a deeper transformation of Pakistan’s capital markets.”

Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Schezad said the same 10-month net addition “matching nearly five years” of earlier growth. He also reported that since June 2022 the exchange had gained 406,995 net new investors, a 148% expansion from a then base of 274,970.

Younger investors drive participation

Officials said about 85% of the new investors belonged to Generation Z and Millennial age groups, pointing to stronger interest among younger adults in equity investing. Schezad linked the trend to growing confidence in economic stabilisation, improving macroeconomic fundamentals, policy direction and the long-term outlook for the capital market. He said the pattern also fits the government’s push to promote investment among ordinary citizens, widen retail access, strengthen financial inclusion and deepen domestic markets. Wider individual participation, he added, is expected to help channel household savings into productive investment and support longer-term growth.

One account of the October figures described the monthly addition as up 66% year-on-year; the Finance Ministry and Schezad put the year-on-year rise in the overall investor base at 56%.
