Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik on Wednesday held talks in Islamabad with JD Singleton, Director for Comminution EMEA and Pakistan Executive Sponsor at Weir, on cooperation in Pakistan’s minerals sector.

The petroleum ministry said Pakistan is discussing potential collaboration with the Scotland-based mining technology firm, which has signalled interest in long-term ties with the government. The minister welcomed Weir’s role in the mineral industry and assured full official backing to ease its engagement and investment plans.

What the two sides discussed

Officials said the meeting covered emerging opportunities in Pakistan’s minerals sector, how advanced mining technologies could be applied, and possible areas of strategic partnership. Malik praised Weir’s wish to deepen its presence in the country and to put its global know-how behind development of local mineral resources.

Weir is described as a global mining technology company with more than 11,000 employees operating in over 50 countries. The firm said it is committed to building lasting relationships with the Government of Pakistan and with major industry players. It has also shown interest in using that expertise to help develop the country’s mineral resources.

Forum plans in Islamabad

Weir will take part in the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2026 (PMIF’26) as a platinum sponsor. A senior leadership team, including Group Chief Executive Officer Andrew Neilson, is expected in Islamabad for the forum on November 12–13, 2026.

Malik said closer work with international technology companies could support more efficient, sustainable and modern mineral development, and help Pakistan’s drive to draw investment into the sector.

What remains ahead

The Wednesday meeting marks an early step in talks rather than a finished deal. Concrete project details, investment amounts and timelines beyond the November forum were not set out in the official account. Attention now turns to Weir’s presence at PMIF’26 and any follow-up agreements that may emerge from that engagement.
