Pakistan’s federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has approved a new Pakistani currency notes design on the recommendation of the Ministry of Finance. In the same meeting, ministers also decided to replace the Rs10 note with a Rs10 coin.
Officials were given a detailed briefing on the planned notes during the session. The move covers both how the notes will look and how the lowest paper denomination in everyday use is to be handled going forward.
What the cabinet decided
The approval centres on fresh designs for banknotes, put forward after work led under the Finance Ministry’s advice. Alongside that clearance, the cabinet resolved that the Rs10 note should give way to a Rs10 coin rather than remain a paper note.
No public timetable for printing, minting, or when the old notes would leave circulation was set out in the information available. What is clear is the policy direction: redesigned notes plus a coin in place of the Rs10 note.
How the designs were chosen
Proposals for the new Pakistani currency notes design were collected from artists and designers across the country. A cabinet committee formed by the prime minister then consulted relevant stakeholders before the full cabinet took up the matter.
That process was presented as a way to bring creative input and institutional review into one decision. The cabinet’s role was to sign off after that briefing and consultation chain.
Security, materials, and durability
The new notes are to carry advanced security features aimed at making counterfeiting harder. Authorities also plan to use quality modern materials so the notes last longer in daily handling.
For shopkeepers, banks, and households, stronger security and tougher paper stock matter because damaged or faked notes disrupt trust in cash. The redesign and the Rs10 coin decision sit inside that wider push for notes that are harder to copy and slower to wear out.
