Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated 127 development projects in Attock on Tuesday, including 59 road construction and rehabilitation schemes worth Rs23 billion. A provincial government handout said the package also covered civic and education facilities across the district.
According to the provincial government, its development programme has already delivered around 850 kilometres of roads in Attock. The district links routes towards Rawalpindi, Pindi Gheb, Fateh Jang and other parts of northern Punjab, so road quality shapes daily travel between villages and larger towns.
Road schemes and civic facilities
The 59 road schemes include Fateh Jang–Pindi Gheb Road, Dhok Lahm–Jhamat Road and Mithial Chowk–Dhok Pathan Road, along with several other routes. Rehabilitation and expansion work is intended to shorten journeys and improve access across rural and urban areas of the district.
Alongside roads, the government is funding drainage improvements meant to reduce rainwater accumulation in Attock city. The inaugurations also included an Agri Mall, a Land Record Centre, a Model Children’s Home and the Fateh Jang Special Education Centre.
The chief minister’s visit followed recent approval of Rs32.8 billion in road schemes elsewhere in Punjab, as the province continues to expand transport infrastructure. Crowds of residents, party workers and children gathered along Hattian Road, Kamra Road and University Road, where flowers were showered and her vehicle was covered with rose petals, the handout said.
Education support in Attock
Separately on Tuesday, Maryam Nawaz distributed laptops and Honhaar scholarship cheques at a ceremony at COMSATS University, Attock. Students from Swabi in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were among those who benefited from the education support.
Students from KP said the financial help had enabled them to pay semester fees of nearly Rs200,000, according to the handout. She was presented with portraits and sketches prepared by students. A total of 6,161 laptops were distributed among students across the Rawalpindi division, including 628 for public university students.
Travel during construction
Officials present the Attock road programme as part of wider efforts to strengthen links across northern Punjab. For residents and traders who use the district’s corridors, completed stretches may ease movement once work finishes.
Motorists may face temporary disruptions on routes where construction is still under way. Local travellers should allow extra time on active work sites until rehabilitation is complete.
