Four oil tankers caught fire near the Strait of Hormuz after striking marine mines, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)—the country's powerful military force—claimed, saying the ships had tried to pass through a maritime route south of the strait that Iranian authorities had banned.

What the Guards say happened

In a statement from Tehran, the Guards said the four tankers were damaged when they hit the mines and that flames then broke out. They further claimed that all four vessels were still engulfed in fire at the time of their announcement.

The same statement alleged that Iranian forces had taken two other ships into custody. According to the Guards, the damaged tankers had been attempting the prohibited southern approach to the strait when the collisions with the mines occurred.

Why the Strait of Hormuz matters

The Strait of Hormuz is among the world's most important sea lanes for moving oil. An incident so close to that corridor can raise concern about shipping traffic and the steady flow of crude to global markets, including supplies that help set fuel costs in importing countries such as Pakistan.

Reports of oil tankers on fire near Hormuz therefore draw close attention well beyond the Gulf, even while basic facts about this episode remain thin.

What is still unconfirmed

No further public detail has emerged on the tankers' identities, the condition of their crews, or whether anyone was killed or injured. The Guards' account has also not been independently verified.

Until those points are clarified by the ships' operators, coastal authorities, or other official channels, the scale of damage and any human toll should be treated as unknown.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Iran ki fauj ka kehna hai ke Strait of Hormuz ke qareeb chaar oil tankers mines se takra kar jal uthe. Unke mutabiq yeh jahaz us raaste se guzarne ki koshish kar rahe the jo band qarar diya gaya tha. Abhi jahazon ke naam, crew ki soorat-e-haal aur nuqsan ki tasdeeq nahi hui. Agar oil ki rawani mutasir hui to Pakistan mein petrol aur diesel ke bhaon par asar ho sakta hai.
