A gas cylinder blast in Lahore killed one factory worker and injured eight others on Sunday at Shezan Bakers on Guru Mangat Road in Gulberg, according to Rescue 1122.

How the explosion unfolded

Rescue 1122 said the blast began with a gas leak in the baking section on the first floor. The force was severe enough to shake nearby buildings, bring down a portion of the floor and set off a fire. More than 40 employees were working in the building when the explosion struck.

Police and Rescue 1122 teams reached the factory, cordoned off the area and started pulling workers out of the damaged section. Emergency crews treated the scene as an active rescue while they checked for anyone still inside the collapsed portion.

Who was killed and injured

Rescue authorities confirmed that 35-year-old worker Sajid, son of Fareed, died of his injuries. Eight others were hurt by the blast and falling debris. Those named among the injured were Saleem, Hanif, Nawaz, Munir and Ishtiaq, along with three colleagues who were not named in the same account. All eight were shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency care.

At one stage, rescue officials also voiced fear that more people could still be trapped under rubble after the powerful blast, and a search continued while casualties were being confirmed.

What happens next

After the Lahore factory blast, police secured the premises and opened an investigation into how the gas leaked. Further public detail on the injured workers’ condition and the full technical cause of the leak had not been set out beyond that inquiry.

Workplace gas cylinders are metal tanks that store cooking or industrial fuel under pressure; when fuel escapes and finds a spark or flame, the sudden burn can throw debris, shatter floors and start secondary fires—exactly the sequence Rescue 1122 described at this site.

Families of the dead and injured now face hospital bills, lost wages and the shock of a workplace tragedy in a busy Gulberg commercial stretch. Colleagues who escaped unhurt still have to return to a damaged baking floor once investigators finish their work.
