The KP Food Authority crackdown intensified on Sunday as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority destroyed thousands of kilograms of adulterated meat, milk and spices across several districts, officials said from Peshawar.

The drive targeted unsafe food at illegal processing sites, markets and food businesses. Authority teams sealed premises, confiscated goods and imposed fines, while the Director General restated a zero-tolerance stance on adulteration.

Raids in Mardan, Takht Bhai and Peshawar

In Mardan and Takht Bhai, inspectors sealed illegal processing units. They discarded 400 kilograms of unsafe minced meat, 1,000 kilograms of substandard dried onions and 500 litres of adulterated milk.

On Ring Road in Peshawar, a major raid uncovered an illegal unit treating 1,550 kilograms of insect-infested dried onions with hydrogen peroxide, a chemical bleach sometimes misused to clean or whiten food. Officials said the stock was confiscated at once and legal action followed.

Wider checks, fines and further disposals

Further operations in Mansehra, Swat, Nowshera and surrounding districts focused on entry checkpoints, restaurants and snack factories. Those actions led to heavy fines and the destruction of hundreds of litres of unfit cooking oil, more adulterated milk and expired food items.

The Director General of the KP Food Authority praised the field teams and said enforcement would continue across the province without favour. The message was clear: unsafe products will be removed from the supply chain to safeguard public health.
