The Pakistan-China Research Center for Party and State Governance was inaugurated in Islamabad on Sunday during an exchange between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Pakistani partners. The ceremony formed part of a programme titled “A Journey to China, A Bond of Brotherhood,” held at a local hotel and hosted by the Pakistan-China Economic & Cultural Council (PCECC).
The occasion coincided with the visit of Liu Haixing, minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee. Among those present were Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong.
What Liu Haixing told the gathering
Liu said that over 75 years since diplomatic ties began, China and Pakistan had stood together and built political trust, practical cooperation and people-to-people friendship despite different systems. He said he was impressed by the welcome he had received and that both sides should deepen exchanges at many levels.
“We are proud of the two countries' strong and long-standing friendship. We cherish it,” he said, adding that the two sides had “heart to heart connections” to carry the friendship across generations. He underlined the value of setting up the research centre in Pakistan and called for closer cooperation among political parties and socio-economic groups.
Under the guidance of President Xi Jinping and Pakistani leaders, he said, the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic partnership had deepened toward a “community with a shared future.” He also spoke about China’s economic growth under CPC leadership and party-building for modernisation. Liu urged both sides to act on consensus to upgrade the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)—the main bilateral development framework—and to keep close contact on major international and regional issues.
Gillani and Kundi on ties and CPEC
Gillani said Pakistan and China share a brotherly relationship and that inter-party exchanges are a key part of bilateral ties. He welcomed the research centre and thanked those who nominated him as its honorary chairman. He said party-to-party cooperation had continued for 75 years despite shifts in the global landscape, and he pledged the Senate’s support to strengthen the friendship.
Pakistan, he said, highly appreciates the global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping and will support and take part in them. Islamabad was ready to deepen strategic trust, expand practical cooperation, build an upgraded CPEC, and promote exchanges among parties, legislatures, media and youth. He called CPEC significant for Pakistan’s economy and society and a jewel of the Belt and Road Initiative—China’s wider cross-border connectivity programme.
Governor Kundi praised growing Sino-Pak friendship across fields and China’s rapid development under its leadership. He also invited Chinese investment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
