The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), the utility that supplies power to the federal capital and adjoining districts, has published the IESCO load shedding schedule today for Wednesday, 28 October. Planned outages will hit parts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi City and Rawalpindi Cantt, with electricity suspended on dozens of 11-kilovolt (11kV) feeders—local lines that serve neighbourhoods—mostly from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Where supply will pause on 28 October
In Islamabad, the shutdown list covers feeders serving Bara Kahu, Murree, Patriata, Kotli Sattian and city sectors including F-6, F-8, G-6, G-7, G-8, G-9, G-10, I-9 and I-10. Named blocks such as Blue Area on the Jinnah Avenue feeder, Aabpara and Melody Markets, Ghauri Town phases, Sohan and Faizabad, and hill areas such as Kashmir Point and Tumair are among those timed for the 9:00 AM–2:00 PM window. Feeders tied to the 132kV G-13 grid station are also down for annual transformer maintenance and bus-coupler cleaning.
In Rawalpindi City Circle, a long list of feeders—from Tehmasma Abad, Khanna Road and Liaqat Bagh to I-16 Markaz and related colonies—are likewise off from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Shorter midday windows apply on Nust Road (11:00 AM–1:00 PM) and on Ameer Hamza Colony, Lakhoo Road and I-16/3 Sector (12:00 PM–1:00 PM). Rawalpindi Cantt Circle follows a similar daytime pattern for many feeders, while Sudhan Gali and Dhulli-1 run until 4:00 PM and Nara Matore until 3:00 PM. Attock Circle also has a 9:00 AM–2:00 PM block on numerous feeders, with Khan Abad listed from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Why the lights will go off
IESCO says the cuts are for annual system maintenance, construction and development work ordered with the district administration, and for work on power transformers at grid stations. Maintenance on two 132kV transmission lines—high-voltage links that move bulk power—is due to continue into the afternoon. Some feeders linked to the G-13 and I-16 grid stations will see shorter outages around midday rather than the full five-hour block.
On Tuesday, 27 October, an IESCO spokesperson said the company was not carrying out unscheduled load management and was following government and Ministry of Energy Power Division directions to keep supply continuous where possible. Scheduled shutdowns, the spokesperson said, are limited-period measures so crews can maintain the network and support development projects such as bridges, underpasses, overhead structures and roads. Short evening load management could still be used if demand briefly exceeds supply, and would be withdrawn when balances return.
How households can prepare and complain
The company said consumers are told in advance through print and electronic media, social media and mosque announcements, and that the shutdown list is posted on its website, iesco.com.pk. Complaint offices and helpline 118 stay open round the clock. Checking whether your feeder is named before the morning window starts remains the practical step for shops, offices and homes that need backup for half a working day.
