PTI’s Amendment condition

Imran Khan release news from Islamabad centres on a political bargain, not a court order: the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party has decided to give conditional support to the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment—an update to the country’s basic law—only if party founder Imran Khan is released, sources said.

The choice was taken in a parliamentary party meeting where, according to those briefed on it, most participants favoured tying the party’s backing for the amendment to Imran Khan’s freedom. That stance answers the immediate public question raised by Imran Khan release news: the party is treating release as a precondition for constitutional cooperation, not announcing that he has already walked free.

Steering committee on access and treatment

The same meeting agreed to form a six-member steering committee to deal with access to Imran Khan and his medical treatment. Opposition leaders Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas will head that body, sources said.

The committee is also meant to negotiate with the government and other relevant people on these issues. Its planned makeup includes two members of the National Assembly and two senators, plus one representative each from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Long, tense session in Parliament House

The gathering at Parliament House ran for about seven hours and was marked by friction. Party members argued over internal differences, talks with the government, and preparations for a long march—a large protest procession.

Earlier in the session, several PTI lawmakers left the committee room during heated exchanges. Sources said Faisal Amin Khan, brother of Ali Amin Gandapur, walked out in anger and shut the door hard behind him. PTI MNA Khawaja Sheraz also left; when colleagues called after him, he said he would come back after a phone call.

Ali Muhammad Khan and Shehryar Afridi likewise stepped out. Asked by a journalist, Ali Muhammad Khan said he would return after taking a call, while Shehryar Afridi said he was going to offer prayers.

What remains unsettled

No Imran Khan release date was fixed in the account of the meeting, and there was no confirmation that he had been freed. The party’s message, as described by sources, is that support for the 28th Amendment will follow only if that release happens, while the new committee works on access, health care, and government negotiations.

Aasan alfaaz mein

PTI ne kaha hai ke woh 28th Amendment tab support karegi jab Imran Khan riha honge. Abhi un ke riha hone ki koi tasdeeq nahi hui. Party ne access aur elaj ke liye chheh logon ki committee bhi banayi hai. Aam logon ke liye yeh abhi siyasi shart hai, koi court ya sarkari release order nahi.
