UN Gaza report says genocide continued after 2025 truce

A UN Gaza report on the 2025 truce says Israeli forces kept using heavy weapons in crowded areas, while West Bank airstrike deaths and displacement climbed.

A UN Gaza report reviewing the 2025 truce period finds that Israel’s conduct in Gaza did not end with last October’s US-brokered pause. The United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry, whose brief covers the Occupied Palestinian Territory including East Jerusalem, and Israel, released the assessment on Monday. It says Israeli authorities kept carrying out genocidal acts aimed at destroying Palestinians in Gaza “in whole or in part,” and that conditions in the occupied West Bank also worsened.

The panel looked at harm to Palestinian civilians, including children, from the war that began on 7 October 2023 through September this year. A separate commission paper in September last year had already concluded that genocide occurred in Gaza and that senior Israeli figures, among them Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stirred those acts—charges Israel branded scandalous.

What investigators say happened after the pause

On Gaza truce violations, the inquiry says troops kept striking crowded neighbourhoods with heavy shells, drones, quadcopters, artillery and sniper fire while the ceasefire was supposed to hold. It describes the Yellow Line—introduced as a short-term ceasefire marker—as creeping further into the strip and hardening into something like a permanent frontier, which it links to wider Israeli territorial control inside Gaza.

Palestinian authorities say more than 74,000 people have died in Israel’s campaign in Gaza, which followed an attack by Hamas-led militants that killed about 1,200 people in southern Israel on 7 October 2023.

West Bank toll and displacement

In material sent to the UN General Assembly, the commission says West Bank conditions deteriorated sharply. Palestinians killed in airstrikes rose from six between 2008 and 6 October 2023 to 254 between 7 October 2023 and 30 September 2026. It argues that army operations, together with ongoing settler violence, formed a wide, organised assault on civilians there after 7 October 2023, and concludes that Israeli authorities and forces committed crimes against humanity including extermination, torture, rape and other sexual violence, plus persecution tied to nationality, race and ethnicity.

Commission Chair Srinivasan Muralidhar said deliberate killings of Palestinian civilians and the wrecking of homes in the West Bank fit a wider plan to wipe out and uproot Palestinians. Army action since January 2025, the paper states, produced the biggest forced movement of Palestinians in the West Bank since 1967, with 34,176 people still uprooted as of August 2026. The same inquiry also criticised the Palestinian Authority for going after dissenters and noted that journalists and human rights defenders had been killed or hurt.

Timeline: what has happened so far

  • 7 October 2023: Hamas-led militants kill about 1,200 people in southern Israel; war and related West Bank violence escalate thereafter.
  • January 2025: Military operations begin that the commission links to the largest West Bank displacement since 1967.
  • September 2025: An earlier commission paper concludes genocide in Gaza and cites incitement by top Israeli officials, including Netanyahu.
  • October 2025: A US-brokered ceasefire takes effect in Gaza; the new inquiry says genocidal conduct and heavy fire continued afterwards.
  • August 2026: Some 34,176 Palestinians in the West Bank remain displaced, according to the latest paper.
  • 30 September 2026: End date for the West Bank airstrike death count cited in the report (254 killed since 7 October 2023).

How Israel responded

Israel’s mission in Geneva called the newest paper part of a misinformation drive meant to demonise the state. Ambassador Daniel Meron said efforts “to destroy the Jewish state” continue through bodies such as the commission that, in his words, undercut Israel’s legitimacy and its right to exist and defend itself. The mission urged governments to reject what it called distortions and to “repudiate the Commission’s findings.”

Aasan alfaaz mein

UN ki nayi report ke mutabiq, October 2025 ki Gaza ceasefire ke baad bhi qatl aur barbadi jari rahi. Commission ka kehna hai ke Israel ke amal genocide ke dairay mein aate hain. West Bank mein bhi air strike se mautain aur be-ghar logon ki tadaad barh gayi. Aam qari ke liye seedhi baat yeh hai ke jang bandi ke bawajood khatra aur nuksaniyan khatam nahi hueen.
