The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) — the utility that supplies electricity to Lahore and nearby districts — has begun a major round of planned outages from Monday under its Lesco power shutdown schedule, as crews carry out maintenance and system upgrades ahead of winter.
According to Lesco’s timetable, around 200 urban and rural subdivisions will lose supply for five to seven hours a day. In some places the break may stretch to eight hours. Most of the work window falls between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., when households, shops and offices are typically active.
Why the shutdowns are happening
Lesco says the outages are tied to work on 132kV and 220kV grid stations (high-voltage hubs that feed large areas) and the 11kV feeders that run from them into neighbourhoods. Crews will replace worn conductors (the wires that carry current), insulators and other equipment, trim trees near high-voltage lines, overhaul grid stations, and split feeders so the network can handle seasonal demand more smoothly.
The company frames the drive as preparation for winter, when demand patterns change and weak hardware can leave more consumers without supply if it is not fixed in time.
Which parts of Lahore and nearby districts are affected
In Lahore, listed localities include Allama Iqbal Town, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Shadman, Johar Town, Model Town, Defence, Cantt and Walton Road. Industrial and commercial belts around Raiwind, Manga Mandi, Sundar and Jubilee Town are also on the list, so factories and markets there should expect long daytime gaps.
Outside the city, the Lesco power shutdown schedule extends to parts of Sheikhupura — including Qila Sattar Shah and Atta Abad — as well as Kasur, Okara, Muridke, Farooqabad, Hujra Shah Muqeem and Phool Nagar. Anyone relying on continuous power for work, clinics or cold storage in these towns should plan around the daytime window.
Equipment delays and what consumers can do
Some Lesco field offices have reported delays in receiving essential maintenance gear and replacement parts. That has raised concern that restoring supply after each day’s work could take longer than the published window in some subdivisions.
Lesco has advised consumers in affected areas to charge essential devices and make other arrangements before the scheduled breaks. Keeping phones, lights and medical equipment ready remains the most practical step while the Lesco power shutdown schedule runs through this maintenance phase.
