Seven people died when a passenger jeep plunged down a mountain slope on the outskirts of Muzaffarabad on Sunday, officials said.
Police and local administrators said the jeep had left Nakka Shakkar Pattiyan for Seri Darra, northeast of the city, and had travelled only about three kilometres when the driver lost control near Sathra Podemar around midday. Officials linked the crash to a landslide-damaged stretch of road. The vehicle tumbled repeatedly down the slope and came to rest as a wreck.
A police account put the drop at roughly 1,000 to 1,500 feet below the road. All seven occupants were dead at the scene. Muzaffarabad Additional Deputy Commissioner Zeeshan Nisar said bodies were scattered across the site; residents and Rescue 1122 later retrieved them.
Those named were driver Abdul Waheed, 40; Muhammad Khalid, 30; Shafaat, 35; Fayyaz Ahmed, 50, and his sons Ubaid Fayyaz, 27, and Azam Fayyaz, 17; and Iftikhar Hussain, 18. Police said relatives received the bodies for burial.
A separate Murree family-van crash on Sunday that killed seven is already covered separately and is not retold here.
