A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) engineer was killed in a suspected targeted shooting in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Sunday afternoon, police and rescue officials said.
Sharea Faisal Station House Officer Anser Ahmed Butt identified the victim as Imtiaz Ahmed, 54. According to the officer, Ahmed left his home in Block-13 to buy bread when unidentified assailants on a motorcycle attacked him and fled.
How the shooting unfolded
Butt said one bullet struck Ahmed and proved fatal, while three other rounds hit a parked car nearby. He was taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. The body was later moved to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), a major public hospital in Karachi, for a post-mortem examination.
Police described the killing as a suspected targeted attack. The SHO ruled out robbery and said the exact motive would be established only after a full investigation.
Family and next steps in the probe
Ahmed was originally from Lahore. Police said they had contacted his brother, who was travelling to Karachi. Formal steps to establish the motive and identify the attackers would begin after the brother’s arrival, Butt added.
The officer also said Ahmed’s wife was in Germany at the time, visiting their daughter.
Investigators have not named any suspects. Residents of Gulistan-i-Jauhar and other eastern Karachi neighbourhoods will be watching for clearer answers on motive and whether the attack was linked to Ahmed’s work or another dispute—questions police say remain open.
