The Office of the Ombudsman Punjab on Tuesday secured Punjab Ombudsman relief amounting to Rs216.10 million for 269 citizens across the province over three months. The money was outstanding dues that government departments had delayed or refused to pay. After receiving complaints, the office directed the departments concerned to release the amounts.

How the unpaid dues were cleared

Citizens approached the Ombudsman Punjab when they could not obtain payments they said were legitimately owed. Acting on those complaints, the office ordered the relevant departments to clear the arrears. A spokesperson set out how the Rs216.10 million was distributed across several categories of claims.

Eighty citizens received Rs89.459 million as financial assistance, the largest single block by value. Thirty people were paid Rs26.739 million against contractual dues. Sixteen received Rs37 million in pension benefits, and eight were paid Rs2.915 million as family pension.

Salaries, grants and smaller payouts

Forty citizens received Rs10.955 million as marriage grants, while ten were paid Rs5.798 million as death grants. Twenty-three people secured Rs5.219 million under the General Provident Fund (GP Fund), the savings account many government employees contribute to during service. Fifty-five citizens received Rs36.758 million in outstanding salaries.

Smaller sums were also released: Rs239,400 in property tax refunds to three citizens and Rs113,400 in farewell grants to two. One citizen received Rs923,000 in group insurance, and another was paid Rs750,000 as gratuity — a lump-sum benefit often linked to the end of service.

What complainants said

Those who had filed complaints appreciated the Punjab Ombudsman relief, saying the intervention helped them secure their legitimate dues and settle grievances that had been stuck with departments. The office presents the three-month tally as the result of timely action on individual cases rather than a single new scheme.
