Pakistani American politicians are competing for state-level offices across the United States as the midterm vote approaches on November 3, 2026. Election lists show candidates of Pakistani heritage seeking seats—or another term—in several state legislatures rather than in federal Congress.

Who is running, and where

In Connecticut, Maryam Khan and Saud Anwar appear as State Senate contenders. In Texas, Salman Bhojani and Suleman Lalani are again asking voters to return them to the State House, from Districts 92 and 76. Farooq Mughal is on a Georgia legislative ballot, while Tariq Khan is a Pennsylvania candidate. Hanadi Nadeem is pursuing a place in the Nevada State Assembly. In Florida, Imtiaz Mohammad is listed as a Republican nominee.

Campaign materials and public lists also note other Muslim American hopefuls on ballots in various states. The Pakistani American politicians named above sit mainly in contests for state houses and senates.

State races, not Capitol Hill

Readers in Pakistan often hear “midterms” and think of Washington. These contests work differently. State legislatures draft and pass laws on schools, roads, local taxes and public services inside each state. They are separate from the federal House of Representatives and the US Senate, which together make up Congress.

For diaspora communities, winning a state seat can mean a louder voice on issues that touch everyday life where they live—without that victory equalling a seat in Congress.

What comes next

Ballots will be decided on November 3, 2026. Until then, candidates will continue campaigning in their districts. Outcomes will depend on local voters in Connecticut, Texas, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Florida and other states where similar tickets appear.

Aasan alfaaz mein

America ki kai states mein Pakistani asl ke log state assembly aur senate ki seat ke liye khare hain. Ye federal Congress nahi, balkay state ke andruni law-making bodies hain. Voting 3 November 2026 ko hogi. Jo jeetega, woh apni state ke local masail par awaz de sakega.
