What the National Assembly was told
Wheat distribution in Pakistan is moving ahead through provincial channels after the dissolution of the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO), the state body that long handled much of the country’s wheat storage and sales. Parliamentary Secretary for National Food Security and Research Shaista Khan informed the National Assembly on Friday that letters have been sent to relevant institutions and the provinces for the distribution of available wheat stocks.
She gave the update during Question Hour in reply to questions from lawmakers Shahida Rehmani and Aliya Kamran. Khan also said wheat is being supplied to Balochistan, Azad Kashmir and other concerned areas, signalling that stocks are not only being reassigned on paper but are already moving to places that need them.
Stocks, imports and how movement is tracked
To cover requirements, she said wheat has been imported as well, and those imported stocks have reached warehouses. That matters for continuity of wheat distribution in Pakistan while the old PASSCO arrangements are wound down and new routes for supply take shape.
For transport and provincial supply, a digital system has been introduced. It includes a dashboard meant to show stock movement, which province is involved, and full delivery details—aimed at making the chain from warehouse to province easier to follow.
Why PASSCO declined and what comes next
Answering a supplementary question, Khan said PASSCO had declined because of financial and administrative problems. She pointed to provinces that were not paying the corporation’s dues and bills on time as part of that strain.
The government, she said, intends to involve the private sector more clearly. Relevant companies are to be linked with the Ministry of National Food Security and Research. A system is also being devised to monitor those firms and hold them accountable so that wheat supply and distribution stay effective under the new setup.
Taken together, the picture from the House is one of handoff: letters and ongoing supplies to the provinces and special areas, imported grain already in warehouses, digital tracking of deliveries, and a planned shift toward privately linked supply under ministry oversight after PASSCO’s end.
Aasan alfaaz mein
PASSCO khatam hone ke baad gandum ke maujooda stocks ki taqseem ke liye provinces ko khatoot bhej diye gaye hain. Balochistan, Azad Kashmir aur kuch doosre ilaqon ko gandum bhi diya ja raha hai. Bahir se aayi gandum warehouses tak pohonch chuki hai, aur ab digital dashboard se supply dekhi ja rahi hai. Logon ke liye matlab yeh hai ke sarkar kehte hain ke ration chain chalti rahegi, lekin ab nazar provinces aur private companies par zyada hogi.
