Meta Muse security concerns: sharing back on, with new URLs

Meta Muse security concerns centred on public links, and Meta says the fix covers shared artifacts such as documents and images, not chat sharing.

Meta has re-enabled sharing in Muse after security researchers reported that public links to shared Muse content were easy to find. The Meta Muse security concerns were raised by researchers at Claroc, who said they could reach shared pages, including a marketing company's internal revenue review and a small business owner's loan application. Meta's David Singleton said in a post on X that "the underlying issue is now fixed, and sharing is back on."

What the researchers reported

Researchers at Claroc said the web addresses for shared Muse conversations were named after each conversation's title and written into public DNS, the internet's directory that connects domain names to addresses. That made the links findable by anyone who searched for them. Reports say Meta paused the sharing feature earlier this week after it was contacted about the problem.

What Meta says it changed

Singleton said the problem was with URLs for shared Muse artifacts, which Meta describes as things like documents and images created inside Muse, and not with chat sharing. Artifacts shared before the fix now have new addresses. Anyone who opens an old link sees a note asking them to get the new one from the person who shared it.

Singleton apologised for the disruption and said that protecting user data had to come first.

Where the accounts differ

The researchers described conversation links, while Meta placed the problem in artifact links. How many shared pages were exposed has not been stated, so it is not yet clear how much content was reached.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Meta ne Muse par sharing dobara chalu kar di hai, kyunke researchers ne kaha tha ke shared links asani se mil rahe thay. Meta ke mutabiq masla documents aur images ke links ka tha, aur ab woh theek ho chuka hai. Jo links pehle share hue thay, unki jagah naya link lena hoga, aur purane link par note dikhega. Agar aap Muse par kaam share karte hain, to sender se naya link zaroor lein.
