Karachi’s benchmark closed sharply higher on Wednesday as a PSX index surge took the KSE-100 through the 170,000 level and on to a full-session finish of 172,013.48, up 3,994.62 points, or 2.38%, from Tuesday’s close of 168,018.87.
The index crossed 170,000 shortly after the open and later hit an intraday high of 172,286.99. An earlier mid-morning print near 169,974 had left the market briefly below the round number; buying then resumed into the close.
Broad buying across sectors
Buying spanned automobiles, cement, banks, fertilisers, oil and gas, power and refineries. Ready-market volume rose to about 842 million shares from roughly 517 million a day earlier, with 368 advances against 103 declines.
What investors are watching
Market participants weighed the US midterm election outcome alongside developments in the Iran war. Softer international oil prices and hopes of US-Iran talks had already lifted Tuesday’s session; Wednesday’s rally extended that risk mood for Pakistani equities.
