Saudi credit line prolonged

On Wednesday, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb told journalists that a $3 billion Saudi facility backing Pakistan will continue for another stretch. He confirmed the maturity had been pushed out after talks between the two sides, describing the new term as suitable for both countries.

The announcement matters for dollar funding: keeping the existing line in place eases near-term pressure on how Islamabad meets overseas obligations while it tries to rebuild its foreign-currency buffer.

Talks in Riyadh's finance channel

Aurangzeb said he held useful talks with Saudi Arabia's finance chief and voiced confidence that ties linking the two states remain firm. He added that Islamabad is not seeking fresh funds from Riyadh at this stage, framing the step as a rollover of what is already in place rather than a new package.

He linked the decision to ongoing management of external liabilities. Prolonging the facility, he indicated, helps the government steady its financing calendar without asking the kingdom for more money right now.

Reserves and repayment calendar

Aurangzeb said foreign reserves can finance roughly three months of incoming goods. In plain terms, that buffer is the stock of usable foreign currency held by the country (often discussed alongside the State Bank of Pakistan, or SBP, which manages monetary and reserve policy).

He also said the government is working to spread overseas repayment deadlines so they do not pile up in a single year. That sequencing aim sits alongside the Saudi extension as part of how officials describe efforts to keep external payments manageable.

Taken together, the minister's remarks present the prolonged Saudi line as one pillar of external financing while reserves stay near the three-month import cover he cited, and while Islamabad says it does not need additional Saudi money for now.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Saudi Arab ne Pakistan ko pehle se di hui 3 arab dollar ki madad ki miyaad barha di hai. Wazir-e-Khazana Aurangzeb ne Parliament House par yeh baat batayi. Ab nai qarz ki zarurat nahi batai ja rahi, aur reserves se lagbhag teen mahine ki imports chal sakti hain. Is se dollar ki zarurat thori asaan rehti hai jab bahar ke qarz chukane hote hain.
