The Pakistan Stock Exchange ended Friday lower after a KSE-100 index drop of 784.19 points, or 0.47 percent, taking the benchmark to 166,409.25 from Thursday’s close of 167,193.44. The session reversed the previous day’s rebound and left most listed names in the red.

Opening losses deepen through the day

Selling appeared soon after the open. By about 9:50am the KSE-100 was near 166,957.17, down 236.26 points, or 0.14 percent. Pressure was reported across automobile assemblers, cement, commercial banks, fertiliser, oil and gas exploration companies and oil marketing companies. Several index-heavy names, including HUBCO, MARI, PPL, MCB, MEBL, NBP and UBL, were trading lower at that stage.

The same day, the finance ministry projected inflation for October 2026 in a 9.5 percent to 10.5 percent range, citing elevated energy and food prices. Officials did not formally tie that outlook to the day’s equity moves, but it formed part of the domestic backdrop while the market was already in a KSE-100 index drop.

Breadth and volumes at the close

By the close, the bearish tone was clear across the ready market. Of 501 companies that traded, 173 posted gains, 300 suffered losses and 28 finished unchanged. Market capitalisation eased to Rs18.389 trillion from Rs18.493 trillion in the previous session.

Share volume in the ready market rose slightly to 825.467 million from 816.834 million a day earlier, but the value of those trades fell sharply to Rs23.123 billion from Rs31.542 billion. Volume leaders included Pervez Ahmed Co with 165.865 million shares, Cnergyico PK with 111.992 million and F. Nat. Equities with 40.465 million.

A few names still advanced. Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited rose by Rs428.80 to Rs26,280.00, and Rafhan Maize Products Company Limited gained Rs104.14 to Rs8,587.46. On the losing side, Pakistan Engineering Company Limited fell Rs35.70 to Rs880.29, while Sazgar Engineering Works Limited dropped Rs33.11 to Rs1,400.25.

In the deliverable futures (DFC) market, turnover reached 738.201 million shares worth Rs28.522 billion, up from 520.614 million shares valued at Rs23.051 billion previously. Of 313 futures names traded, 70 advanced, 238 declined and five were unchanged.
