Three Khyber Pakhtunkhwa law-enforcement members died on Friday in a KP police attack pattern that struck three districts, according to provincial police. One of the dead served in the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), the specialised unit that tracks militant networks. The killings unfolded apart from one another rather than as a single raid.
Checkpost and roadside shootings
Near where Bajaur meets Malakand, militants hit a roadside police post. Constable Khaista Ameen Syed was defending that post when he was killed, police said. Elsewhere, in Lakki Marwat, gunmen on bikes fired on officers at Shahbazkhel Adda. Constable Mumtaz Khan, attached to Shahbazkhel station, died in that burst of gunfire. A colleague with him shot back and the assailants broke contact and escaped.
Bannu CTD killing and Lakki pursuit
In Bannu’s Saddar police area, CTD official Sadiq Zaman was fatally shot. Police said he worked with CTD North Waziristan, drove the SP CTD for that agency, and was at home on leave when he was attacked. His remains were taken to the district headquarters hospital, and an inquiry began. After the Lakki Marwat ambush, district officers, a local peace committee and other security units chased the fleeing gunmen. In the firefight that followed, two men police linked to Fitna al-Khawarij (FAK)—a label used for a banned militant faction—were killed. Search teams were still hunting three other suspects.
