HEC rejects claim equating technology and engineering degrees

The Higher Education Commission says a social media document dated 29 October 2026 that equates technology and conventional engineering degrees was never issued by the commission.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan’s federal higher-education regulator, has warned students and graduates that an HEC engineering degree fake notification circulating on social media is not authentic. The commission said it did not issue the document and that people should not rely on it for study or career decisions.

What the viral document claimed

The circulating paper is dated 29 October 2026. It claims that HEC has declared a Bachelor of Technology (Honours) in Engineering, or a BSc Engineering Technology (Honours), equivalent to a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) or a BSc Engineering degree—in other words, that technology and conventional engineering qualifications would carry the same standing.

The same document also claims that a Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) counts as 14 years of education in the relevant engineering discipline. On that basis, it says DAE holders may seek lateral entry into BE, BSc Engineering, and engineering technology programmes, subject to each university’s admission rules.

HEC’s clarification

HEC has categorically rejected the paper. The commission clarified that it did not issue this HEC engineering degree fake notification and that the claims of equivalence and lateral entry linked to it should not be treated as official policy.

It advised students, graduates, the general public, and other stakeholders not to depend on the misleading document or to share it further. Circulating an unissued notice, HEC indicated, only spreads confusion among applicants and employers.

Where to find authentic updates

HEC urged the public to check its official website and its verified social media accounts for genuine notifications and information. That is the route it recommended for anyone unsure whether a message about degrees or admissions is real.

For engineering and technology students, the practical message is straightforward: treat social media screenshots as unverified until they appear through HEC’s own channels. Degree standing, programme names, and entry pathways remain as set by official rules, not by a viral file dated 29 October 2026.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Social media par aik notification chal rahi thi jo kehti thi ke technology aur engineering degrees ab barabar hain. HEC ne saaf kaha hai ke yeh notification us ne nahi jaari ki. Students ko is par bharosa nahi karna chahiye. Sahih khabar ke liye HEC ki official website ya verified social media accounts dekhein.
