The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore has approved five new PhD programs aimed at widening doctoral study and deepening research across health-related fields. The decision came at the university’s 96th Syndicate meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor Maj Gen (R) Prof. Dr. Sohail Sabir.
The approved doctoral tracks cover Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Oral Biology and Medical Laboratory Sciences. Together they expand the range of subjects available for PhD-level work at UHS, which is a major regulator and degree-awarding body for medical and allied health education in Punjab.
What else the Syndicate cleared
Alongside the five PhD programs, the Syndicate approved a dedicated Department of Regenerative Medicine. That department will offer both MPhil and PhD programs, adding a new research and teaching focus within the university.
Officials also endorsed revisions to curricula for postgraduate courses, Allied Health Sciences, the PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) degree and postgraduate dental programs. Changes were made to admission-test requirements and eligibility criteria for selected MPhil and PhD programs, though the university has not published a detailed public breakdown of every amended rule in the material available on this decision.
Admissions still unannounced
UHS has not yet announced when applications will open, how many seats will be offered, or the full eligibility criteria for the new PhD programs. Prospective candidates in nursing, pharmacy, public health, oral biology and medical laboratory sciences will need to wait for a formal admissions notice before they can apply.
Until those details appear, the approval signals institutional intent rather than an immediate intake. Students and faculty already working in related MPhil or clinical programs may watch for how the new departments and revised entry rules affect pathways into doctoral study.
Why the programs matter for health education
Doctoral capacity in nursing, pharmacy, public health, oral biology and laboratory sciences is closely tied to teaching quality, clinical research and the training pipeline for hospitals and laboratories. By clearing these tracks and a Regenerative Medicine unit in one Syndicate sitting, UHS is aligning postgraduate structures with a broader set of health disciplines beyond traditional medical specialties.
Curriculum updates across postgraduate, Allied Health Sciences, PharmD and dental programs suggest the university is also refreshing taught content and entry standards, not only adding degree titles. How quickly the new PhD seats open will depend on follow-up notices from the university.
Aasan alfaaz mein
UHS Lahore ne health sciences mein paanch naye PhD programs approve kar diye hain. Yeh Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Oral Biology aur Medical Laboratory Sciences ke liye hain. Regenerative Medicine ka naya department bhi banega, lekin admission dates aur seats abhi announce nahi hue. Jo log in fields mein PhD soch rahe hain, unhein university ke agle notice ka wait karna hoga.
