The University of Karachi has opened applications for a one-month research internship aimed at medical and dental students, to be hosted by the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), a unit of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS). The Karachi University internship will run from 1 to 31 December 2026, and the advertised application window closes on 10 November 2026.
Selected participants will spend four weeks in PCMD research sections. The centre has stated clearly that the programme is unpaid and that students will receive no financial compensation.
What students will do
The internship is designed to introduce medical and dental trainees to scientific research and to build practical skills in molecular and cellular work. According to the official advertisement, participants will learn how to form research questions, choose suitable methods, and assess findings with a critical eye.
Work will centre on human diseases—how they are diagnosed, treated, and prevented. PCMD’s wider remit covers molecular medicine and drug research, with attention to illnesses that affect Pakistan. The centre says the aim is to encourage interest in research alongside clinical training.
Nine research areas and who can apply
Placements are listed in nine fields: Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Health Sciences, bioequivalence studies, genomics, immunology and microbiology, molecular and structural biology, pharmacology, proteomics, stem cell research, and virology. Successful applicants will be assigned to PCMD sections according to the institute’s arrangements.
Application instructions invite final-year MBBS and BDS students. The advertisement’s introduction also refers to recent medical and dental graduates, but the detailed instructions focus on final-year students. Recent graduates should check eligibility with the institute before applying. No minimum marks percentage, age limit, or prior research experience is set out in the notice.
How to apply
Candidates must apply directly to PCMD. Required materials include a CV, academic mark sheet or marks proforma, and a recommendation letter from the head of their department. Applicants should also name the research field they prefer. Documents are to be emailed to the centre using the address given in the official advertisement. The institute will then select students for the available sections.
