The latest AJK cabinet decisions, taken at the government’s second cabinet meeting, approve a package of steps on healthcare, legal services for overseas Kashmiris, sports funding and administrative reform. Government ministers said 19 agenda items were discussed, and the cleared measures range from hospital upgrades to special courts and industry support.

Healthcare upgrades across districts

Ministers said the government is preparing a 100-day development agenda meant to improve public services and healthcare across Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Under that plan, two basic health units (BHUs)—small primary clinics—and one rural health centre (RHC) in every district are to be upgraded so more people can get care closer to home.

The same programme covers catheterisation laboratories—facilities for heart-related procedures—in Bhimber, Kotli and Rawalakot, plus two specialised stroke centres in Azad Kashmir. Those AJK healthcare upgrades sit alongside a pledge to strengthen public-sector capacity and tourism as part of wider reform work.

Legal services, sports and industry

Among the AJK cabinet decisions, ministers highlighted special courts to deal with legal problems faced by overseas Kashmiris, so families abroad have a clearer path for cases linked to the region. The cabinet also set aside two per cent of the budget to promote sports and approved Gemstone Excellence Centres to support the precious-stones trade.

Financial assistance was approved to ease pension difficulties for retired employees of local government institutions. Ministers framed these steps as part of broader public-welfare and service-delivery work still being rolled out.

Administrative reforms and programmes ahead

On AJK administrative reforms, the cabinet endorsed merging the administrative structures of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA)—the disaster-response body—and the State Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (SERRA), which handles quake rebuilding. The aim, as described by ministers, is a more joined-up official setup.

Ministers said further welfare and service measures would follow soon, including the Dhee Rani Programme, the Suthra Kashmir Programme, the Himmat Card, Clinic on Wheels, and projects to digitise government services. Taken together, the AJK cabinet decisions point to a multi-sector push rather than a single-issue announcement.
