Opposition offered places on reforms panel
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has told aides that rival parties should sit on a parliamentary body reviewing election rules, people familiar with the matter said. The move is framed as a bid for cross-party buy-in on how ballots and related laws are updated.
Officials described a twenty-seat forum headed by the Pakistan Peoples Party, with five of those seats held for the opposition. The premier, those sources added, wants ministries to ask competing parties for names so the minority side is not shut out of the talks.
How the invitation is expected to work
The National Assembly speaker is likely to send formal letters asking opposition groups to join and put forward five members. That step would turn a political instruction into a written invitation from the house leadership.
Government interlocutors say the goal is shared ownership of any package that emerges, rather than reforms drafted only by the treasury benches. No timetable for the first sitting of the panel was given in the available accounts.
Charter idea and November meeting
In a separate track, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has suggested writing a new Charter of Democracy. Opposition figures at a parliamentary alliance session reportedly welcomed the concept, though a firm yes was deferred until more consultations.
Those at the sitting also telephoned National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said it would first sound out its own legislators before locking in a position on the charter draft.
Alliance partners further agreed to convene an All Parties Hurriyat Conference in the second week of November. They intend to unveil the charter proposal there in public form, and they stressed that talking across party lines remains necessary while the wider political stand-off continues.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Wazeer-e-azam ne kaha hai ke electoral reforms ki assembly committee mein opposition ko bhi shamil kiya jaye. Yeh committee bees logon ki hogi, PPP uski sadrat karegi, aur paanch seats opposition ke liye rakhi gayi hain. Alag se opposition naye Charter of Democracy aur November ke doosre hafte ek conference par baat kar rahi hai. Aam logon ke liye seedha matlab yeh hai ke intikhabi qawaneen badalne ka process ab sirf hukumat tak mehdood nahi rahega — agar nomination aur baithakain asl mein hon.
