The death toll from a Nagarparkar ambulance cylinder blast in Tharparkar has risen to 10 after a child receiving treatment at a Karachi trauma facility also died.
The explosion took place inside an ambulance in Nagarparkar tehsil. Those killed included a pregnant woman, staff linked to a health centre, and caregivers travelling with patients. The child’s death in Karachi confirmed how severe the injuries were for some of those caught in the incident.
What officials say caused the blast
The head of PPHI Sindh — the provincial primary healthcare programme — said the cylinder that exploded was an oxygen cylinder. An LPG cylinder fitted in the same ambulance was not in use at the time, according to that account. The distinction matters for how emergency vehicles store medical gases and cooking fuel on long journeys through remote areas.
Victims and funeral rites
Seven of the 10 dead belonged to the Hindu community. Their last rites have been performed. Funeral prayers for the other deceased have also been offered. The mix of patients, medical workers and attendants shows how a single ambulance run can carry whole families and frontline staff together.
