Police in Bajaur have arrested a Bajaur seminary teacher for allegedly beating a student to death inside a madressah, officials said on Tuesday. The teacher, who worked at a seminary in the Qazafi Bandagi area of Utmankhel tehsil, had fled after the alleged assault and was seized during a police raid once the death came to light.
The child who died was 12 years old. According to the first information report (FIR), the deceased was identified as Arshad, a resident of the Mandal area of Salarzai tehsil. His body was found inside the mosque and seminary premises.
How the arrest unfolded
Regional Police Officer for Malakand Division Zahid Nawaz took notice of the boy's death and ordered that the suspect be arrested. A team from Utmankhel police station, led by District Police Officer Khan Zeb Mohmand, then carried out the raid, police said in a statement.
The raiding party, headed by SHO Utmankhel Mustafa Kamal, detained the teacher at the place where he had gone after the alleged crime. He was shifted to the police station for legal proceedings.
Case details and police response
An FIR was registered against the suspect under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, the murder provision under which intentional killing is prosecuted. Police said an investigation was under way so that the accused could be dealt with according to the law.
District Police Officer Khan Zeb Mohmand described the death of a child at the hands of his teacher inside a seminary as a tragic and horrific incident. He said police stood with the bereaved family and would work for immediate justice.
Authorities have not publicly released further detail on the exact sequence of the alleged beating beyond stating that it took place inside the madressah and that the Bajaur seminary teacher fled afterwards. The case now rests on the FIR, the custody of the arrested teacher, and the continuing probe.
