A bomb exploded near Miryan Gate police post in Bannu when a police mobile van was nearby, police said, with no loss of life reported.
According to police, the explosives were fitted to a motorcycle. The blast partly damaged the police van and completely destroyed the motorcycle. Officers said no one was killed or injured.
What police say happened
Police described the attack as a bombing aimed at the mobile van close to the Miryan Gate chowki. The device, they said, had been installed on a motorcycle that was left in a position to strike the vehicle.
After the explosion, the van remained usable enough to be described as only partly damaged, while the motorcycle that carried the charge was reduced to wreckage.
Investigation under way
Police said they have gathered evidence from the scene and started an inquiry. Further details on who planted the device, or whether any group has claimed responsibility, were not stated.
Security around police posts and mobile vans is a routine concern in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where such attacks have occurred before. This incident, as reported so far, is limited to property damage and an open investigation.
