What Sindh’s lab found

Fake medicine Pakistan concerns sharpened after a government testing laboratory in Sindh rejected seven manufacturing lots drawn from six widely sold brands. Chemists said the samples lacked the therapeutic compounds those products are meant to deliver, raising questions about how the stock was made and how it reached pharmacies.

Officials are now examining firms, plants and supply routes tied to the failed lots. Papers from the laboratory have already been forwarded for enforcement follow-up in Karachi.

Which products and lot codes failed

Among the rejected stock were Velosef, Augmentin, No-Spa Forte, Mucaine Suspension and Brufen, plus the constipation syrup Laxoberon. For Velosef 500mg, lot LX3A showed none of the expected active compound. Augmentin 526mg lot YT9D was likewise voided. Separate lots of No-Spa Forte and Mucaine Suspension also missed the laboratory’s pass mark.

A Brufen sample marked W6BC—sold for joint pain—was voided as well. Two Laxoberon syrup lots, coded 46292 and 43445, failed because sodium picosulfate, the ingredient that should drive the medicine’s effect, was missing.

Companies and the next enforcement steps

Martin Dow Marker said it had not produced the disputed Laxoberon lots. Other makers linked to the remaining products also declined to treat those codes as their own output. Enforcement staff have been advised to move under the Drug Act 1976, the main statute that polices the quality and sale of medicines in Pakistan.

The Sindh drug testing laboratory has sent its findings to the Secretary of the Quality Control Board Sindh and to the Drug Inspector Karachi South. Those offices will decide what seizures, recalls or prosecutions follow. Shoppers checking for fake drugs Pakistan alerts should match carton lot codes against any official notices before buying or taking leftover tablets.
