Lahore traffic police driving license suspension will apply after every fatal crash and every serious non-fatal crash, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Abdul Rahim Sherazi has said, as the city force tightens action against drivers held responsible for deadly road incidents. Route permits for the vehicles involved can also be suspended, and those drivers face legal action.
What the new enforcement covers
Under the approach outlined by the CTO, officials will move to suspend a driver’s license when a crash is fatal or serious, provided a court orders it. Suspending the vehicle’s route permit is meant to stop other drivers from using that same vehicle on public routes. Anyone found driving with a suspended license will face cases, Sherazi said.
For reckless driving, a suspension may run from six months to three years. Lahore Traffic Police will also suspend licenses of drivers whose vehicles contribute to smog, as part of what the CTO described as a zero-tolerance stance on irresponsible driving.
Why commercial vehicles are in focus
Sherazi said heavy and commercial vehicles make up only 4% of total traffic in Lahore but are involved in 44% of road accidents. That imbalance is one reason the force is pairing Lahore traffic police driving license suspension with route-permit action against public service vehicles.
Authorities have already suspended the licenses of 117 drivers involved in accidents this year. They have also written to the relevant authorities seeking suspension of route permits for 97 public service vehicles.
What drivers should expect next
The CTO framed the steps as stricter measures to prevent road accidents, not a one-off announcement. Drivers and operators of buses, wagons, and other public service vehicles should expect license and permit action when they are held responsible for fatal or serious crashes, alongside separate legal proceedings.
Lahore traffic police driving license suspension for smog-linked operation and for reckless driving extends the same enforcement beyond crash cases alone. Motorists who continue to drive after a suspension risk fresh cases, according to the CTO.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Lahore Traffic Police ne kaha hai ke maut ya serious accident ke zimmedar driver ka license band ho sakta hai, court ke hukum se. Bus ya public vehicle ka route permit bhi rok diya ja sakta hai, taake doosra driver usi gaari ko na chala sake. Is saal pehle hi 117 drivers ke licenses suspend ho chuke hain. Gaflat se chalane par license 6 mahine se 3 saal tak band reh sakta hai.
