Two people were killed and four others injured in a gas bowser explosion near Sukkur beside the National Highway and motorway interchange. The blast involved a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker — a truck that carries cooking and industrial gas — and was powerful enough to hurl debris several feet and badly damage nearby vehicles.
The dead were named as Adnan and Safdar, both drivers of the LPG bowser and residents of Khushab. Sukkur Deputy Commissioner Nadir Shahzad said the injured included drivers of other vehicles caught in the area.
Officials at the scene
District Council Chairman Syed Kumail Haider Shah visited the site with the deputy commissioner and Sukkur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Saleem Sohto. Speaking to reporters, Kumail Haider Shah said the injured were receiving the best possible medical care and could be moved to a private hospital or taken by air ambulance if needed.
He also said rescue centres would be set up near the National Highway and motorway interchange, and that officials were checking where the bowser had come from.
Cause still under investigation
Deputy Commissioner Nadir Shahzad said the exact cause of the explosion was being probed, with treatment of the injured as the administration’s top priority. SSP Saleem Sohto said highway traffic had been restored after the incident. He added that a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) team — police specialists who examine evidence after major blasts — had collected material to help establish what triggered the fire and explosion.
CCTV footage of the Sukkur bowser explosion has also circulated, showing the force of the blast at the interchange. Authorities have not publicly confirmed a final cause.
What travellers should know
For now, officials say the road is open again. The gas bowser explosion near Sukkur remains under inquiry, and further medical updates on the four injured will depend on hospital assessments. Residents and drivers using the Sukkur interchange routes should expect continued official activity while evidence is reviewed.
