Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has informed the National Assembly that counter-terrorism operations in Pakistan between 1 January and 29 September killed 2,410 militants. In a written reply, he said security forces and law enforcement agencies carried out 5,143 such operations nationwide.

The same period, according to the ministry’s response, left 806 militants injured and saw 3,518 arrests. The operations were conducted under the National Action Plan.

What parliament was told on the numbers

Mohsin Naqvi’s written reply set out the scale of security forces operations across the country over those nine months. The figures cover both security forces and law enforcement agencies acting together on counter-terrorism work.

The ministry presented the kill, injury and arrest totals as the measured outcome of that campaign. It did not break the numbers down by province or by month in the reply summarised for parliament.

Online extremism and capacity gaps

Beyond the field totals, the reply pointed to weak handling of online extremism. The ministry said the issue had not received adequate attention, and that federal and provincial authorities still lacked a coordinated mechanism to respond systematically to threats that emerge online.

It also said security agencies and open-source intelligence units face a shortage of trained analysts. That shortfall, the ministry stated, limits round-the-clock monitoring of online activity.

NACTA funding and Afghan ID cancellations

The written response outlined funding pressure on the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), the statutory body that coordinates counter-terrorism efforts but does not itself have independent arrest or law-enforcement powers. NACTA had sought more than Rs2.98 billion for the 2026-27 fiscal year, the ministry said, but received Rs1.33 billion for the current year.

Plans are in place, according to the ministry, to turn NACTA into a National Counter Terrorism Division as part of changes to the government’s counter-terrorism structure. Separately, the ministry told parliament that identity cards belonging to 326,341 Afghan nationals had been cancelled over the past five years because their legal status was considered questionable.

Together, the reply framed counter-terrorism operations in Pakistan as an intensive nationwide effort while also flagging unfinished work on digital threats and institutional funding.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Januari se 29 September tak security forces aur law enforcement ne mulk bhar mein 5,143 counter-terrorism operations kiye. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi ne National Assembly ko bataya ke in operations mein 2,410 militants mare gaye, 806 zakhmi hue aur 3,518 giraftar kiye gaye. Online extremism aur trained analysts ki kami abhi bhi masla hai, aur NACTA ko chahiye se kam budget mila. Aam logo ke liye yeh figures yeh batate hain ke security campaign bari scale par chal rahi hai, lekin online khatron aur coordination par abhi kaam baqi hai.
