Nomination filing for the Islamabad local government elections began on Monday in the federal capital, opening the first formal step toward voting later this year. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the body that runs national and local polls, has set polling for Sunday, 20 December, and aims to finish the process by 24 December.

Who can file and by when

Under the ECP schedule, candidates may submit nomination papers until 6 November. A list of candidates is due for publication on 7 November. That short window means anyone planning to contest seats in Islamabad’s local bodies election must move quickly while filing remains open.

Scrutiny, appeals and symbols

Returning officers (ROs)—officials who check whether nomination papers meet legal rules—will scrutinise filings from 9 to 13 November. Candidates who disagree with an RO’s decision may appeal from 14 to 18 November. An appellate tribunal is scheduled to decide those appeals between 19 and 23 November.

A revised candidate list is due on 24 November. Withdrawals are allowed until 25 November. Election symbols are to be allotted on 26 November, after which campaigning can proceed under the allotted marks.
