Google is shutting down Jules, its Google AI coding tool, on 31 December 2026 as it concentrates AI software development work on Antigravity, an AI-powered development platform built around AI agents. Developers still using Jules have until 11 November 2026 to finish ongoing coding sessions. After that date the service will switch to read-only mode, so projects can be viewed but not worked on through Jules.
The move comes just over a year after Jules opened to the public in August 2025. Google has framed the product as an experiment that showed how AI agents can help software developers, and said lessons from Jules are feeding into other products, including Antigravity.
Why Jules is closing
Jules was built to help developers write, fix and improve code. Unlike assistants that need constant back-and-forth, it could take on tasks in the background. Users could connect GitHub repositories, assign work, and keep going with other jobs while Jules ran.
Google now wants those efforts under one roof. Antigravity is meant to cut manual coding work by letting developers manage tasks through AI agents, in a similar spirit to Jules. The company has not confirmed that every Jules feature will appear in Antigravity, and it has not announced an automatic transfer of existing Jules projects or settings.
Google also has not said how many people actively used Jules, or whether weak uptake played a role. It faces competition in AI-assisted coding from services such as OpenAI Codex, Anthropic’s Claude Code and GitHub Copilot. Bringing products together under Antigravity is meant to offer a more unified Google AI coding assistant experience.
What Jules users should do now
Two dates matter. On 11 November 2026, active coding sessions must be finished; Jules then becomes read-only. On 31 December 2026, the service is due to close completely.
Google has added a data export path so users can download account settings, connected repositories, saved information, scheduled tasks, setup instructions and past coding sessions. Exports can also cover task instructions, plans, activity logs and code changes. Code, branches and pull requests already on GitHub will remain there after Jules ends. Anything kept only inside Jules should be exported before the shutdown.
Timeline: what has happened so far
- August 2025: Jules becomes publicly available as Google’s AI coding assistant.
- 11 November 2026: Deadline to complete ongoing coding sessions; Jules turns read-only afterwards.
- 31 December 2026: Jules is scheduled to shut down fully; Google’s AI coding focus continues on Antigravity.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Google apna AI coding assistant Jules band kar raha hai. 11 November 2026 ke baad aap is par naya kaam nahi kar sakenge, sirf dekh sakenge. 31 December 2026 ko service bilkul band ho jayegi, is liye apna data export kar lein. Google ab Antigravity par focus kar raha hai, lekin har Jules feature wahan jane ki guarantee nahi di.
