Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC, the city local government) is preparing a Karachi new flyover on Nishtar Road at an estimated cost of Rs1 billion, aimed at easing traffic movement and cutting congestion on that corridor. Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab outlined the plan at a press conference at the KMC Head Office, saying work is meant to start with a groundbreaking on 20 November and finish within 100 days.
Cost, schedule and funding
Wahab said the Nishtar Road flyover would be financed from KMC’s own resources rather than an outside package. The corporation’s target is to complete construction inside the stated 100-day window after the November ceremony. Officials present the scheme as a direct response to heavy traffic on the road, though they have not published detailed traffic counts in the announcement.
Part of a wider city programme
The mayor placed Karachi's new flyover inside a broader infrastructure drive covering road rehabilitation, traffic improvements and alternative routes across the city’s seven districts. Among other works KMC is pursuing through its own funds are the Chakora Nullah Expressway, rehabilitation of major roads, and construction of alternative routes meant to spread traffic load. KMC expects the Nishtar Road structure to help vehicles move more smoothly once it opens.
