A fire broke out at a furniture market near Kamran Chowrangi in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi, prompting a major response from Rescue 1122, the fire brigade and police. Flames also reached a neighbouring residential building, officials said, though that part of the blaze was brought under control while crews continued work at the market.
How emergency teams responded
According to Rescue 1122, fire engines, rescue teams and ambulances were sent to the site as soon as the call came in. A Rescue spokesperson said four fire tenders were engaged in putting out the blaze, and that the firefighting operation was still under way to bring the furniture-market fire fully under control.
Rescue and police personnel remained on the scene to finish containing the fire and to restore a normal situation in the area. No official figure for injuries or deaths was given in the available accounts.
Power cut and security around the site
K-Electric (KE), the city’s power utility, switched off electricity in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar block as a safety measure after the fire. That step is meant to reduce the risk of live wires and further electrical hazards while crews work.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East said a large contingent from Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Shahrah-e-Faisal police arrived at the location. Officers cordoned off the area and tightened security while the operation continued.
Cause and damage still unclear
Officials have not yet released the cause of the Karachi furniture market fire, nor any estimate of financial loss. Until investigators complete their work, residents and traders will need to wait for confirmed details on how the blaze started and what property was destroyed.
