Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Sindh chief minister, said on Thursday that relatives of every person killed in the Tharparkar ambulance tragedy will receive Rs2 million. Officials had told him a fire inside a medical van in Nagarparkar left nine people dead and four wounded.
How the accident unfolded
Those who briefed him placed the scene at Dano Dhandhal, within Nagarparkar. Flames began inside the ambulance as an oxygen tank was being replaced, they said. Nine lives were lost and four people were hurt in that blaze. The chief minister learned of the reported toll of nine before fixing the cash support for bereaved households.
Money, care and a provincial probe
Shah voiced sorrow at the deaths and offered sympathy to grieving relatives across Tharparkar. The CM Murad Ali Shah compensation pledge covers each household that lost someone in the crash of care, not those only injured. He tasked Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah with launching an open probe under the Health Department, pinning down how the fire started, and handing in written findings.
District offices and the health wing must move faster on relief, he said, and give wounded patients strong clinical care. Teams should also support funeral rites and extend whatever help households need. Provincial assembly member Qasim Soomro was asked to go to Nagarparkar and take charge of aid work and local admin steps so households get help without delay.
Wider safety review after the Tharparkar ambulance tragedy
Calling the episode deeply alarming, Shah pressed for a full probe that settles what went wrong and who fell short. He sought a province-wide audit of how emergency vans and clinics keep gear safe, focusing on oxygen tanks and related kit: storage, swaps and upkeep. Once investigators finish, the Health Department must apply firm safeguards so such accidents do not repeat. Emergency crews and clinics, he stressed, must stick to sound safety rules that shield those being treated, people with them, and staff. He once more offered sympathy to grieving relatives and asked for peace for those who died and quick healing for the wounded.
