Peshawar’s administration has cancelled staff leave and ordered a faster Peshawar anti-encroachment campaign after a high-level meeting directed officials to finish Ring Road clearances this week and run the drive on double shifts.
The meeting was chaired by Commissioner Peshawar Division Capt (R) Khalid Mahmood. Officials were told to complete the Ring Road phase within the current week and to begin double shifts so that the pace of demolitions and land recovery can effectively double.
Three police stations and a school listed
The same sitting found that three police stations themselves fall within encroachment zones. Extra portions of the buildings at Agha Mir Jani Shah, Pashtakhara and Rahman Baba police stations are to be demolished as part of the drive.
A government girls school in Ghardi Qamaruddin was also identified as affected by encroachments. The listing of both police premises and a school underlines that the operation is not limited to private stalls or roadside stalls alone.
Workshops to move to Ring Road
Officials decided that workshops currently operating inside the city will be relocated to the Ring Road. The move is meant to clear congested inner-city stretches while keeping trade activity on a designated corridor rather than stopping it outright.
For shopkeepers and workshop owners in the walled or central areas, that points to a forced shift of premises once the relocation order is enforced, rather than a temporary pause.
Land recovered so far
In the Peshawar anti-encroachment effort to date, authorities say 410 kanals of land have been reclaimed and 570 encroachments have been removed. The recovered land has been valued at roughly Rs29.5 billion.
Those figures frame the current push as a continuation of work already under way, with leave cancellations and double shifts intended to keep teams on the ground through the week’s Ring Road target.
What comes next is the week’s Ring Road deadline, demolition of the listed extra blocks at the three stations, action around the Ghardi Qamaruddin school site, and the planned transfer of inner-city workshops to the Ring Road.
